TROPICAL CHIC: Traditional Tropical Chic decor, a form of British Colonial decor, is similar to West Indies style (see Island Style), but walks a bit more on the "wild" side with its tropical decorations. British Colonial east and west Indies are blended (often adding Serengeti accents) for an overall "British Colonial traveler" effect:
Area rugs, decorative pillows and/or upholstered accent pieces contribute touches of bold animal skin designs (leopard, tiger, zebra). Art and table top accessories often depict these animals or jungle creatures such as monkeys, elephants, toucans, etc. Plants are more dense with lots of green, but few flowers. Deep, rich wall colors (think spices) heighten the drama. All white walls rarely work with this decor, so at least consider an accent wall.
